Preparing for the Unpredictable

Challenges for Japan’s National Security

Japan’s security is facing multiple and increasing levels of threat. The pandemic has absorbed tremendous financial resources at a time when China is exerting pressure throughout the Indo-Pacific, as Russia and North Korea are expanding power in Northeast Asia. Key to Japan’s survival is leadership, innovation, industrial capacity and military preparedness.

How is Japan coping? This program will discuss the nature of rising military threats, the economic downturn and the impact on policy and budgets. The effects are beginning to be felt in government and industry and on relations with the U.S. and Japan’s strategic partners – this debate is just beginning and gathering momentum.
