Japan-Australia Defence Industry Dialogue (JADID)
The Strategic Update replaces the Strategic Defence Framework set out in the 2016 Defence White Paper with three new strategic objectives:
- to shape Australia’s strategic environment,
- to deter actions against Australia’s interests; and
- to respond with credible military force, when required.
The Australian Defence Industry Base
The Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC) supports Australian businesses entering or working in the defence industry. The CDIC:
- helps businesses navigate the defence market
- provides specialist advice on improving competitiveness and accessing global markets
- facilitates connections between businesses and Defence
- links Australian innovators and researchers to the Defence Innovation Hub and the Next Generation Technologies Fund
- undertakes sector-wide projects to support industry development
The CDIC is headquartered in Adelaide, with advisers and facilitators across all the states and territories to form a national advisory network. They are supported by AusIndustry’s outreach network, which extends the CDIC’s reach to regional areas.
The CDIC’s mission is to work with industry and Defence to build a world-class, globally competitive and sustainable Australian industry as a Fundamental Input to Capability. It partners with industry, Defence, and state and territory governments to combine knowledge and networks towards this goal.

OUR MISSION
The AIDN National Mission is to maximise opportunities for Australian defence industry in the Defence and National Security Sectors.
AIDN provides the focal point for Defence’s interaction with Australia’s dynamic base of smaller defence companies.
AIDN functions through a National Secretariat and facilitates effective and efficient communications between State bodies and Federal Government Departments, in particular the Department of Defence and the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. AIDN also represents member bodies on Department of Defence fora and at relevant seminars. Importantly, AIDN represents the SME perspective in the development of Defence Industry Policy and can mediate or assist in resolving Industry/Government misunderstandings.
