Japan\u2019s Self-Defense Forces face a growing manpower shortage at a time when Japan\u2019s security environment demands greater capability. Recruitment challenges and demographic pressures mean Japan must find new ways to increase defense capacity through innovative thinking and policies that attract talent.<\/p>

The October 1 First Breakfast will examine how technology, automation, AI, unmanned systems, robotics, and other force multipliers can help the SDF do more with fewer people. At the same time, increasingly sophisticated defense systems require highly skilled engineers, technicians, software specialists, and other professionals capable of operating, maintaining, integrating, and improving these capabilities.<\/p>

The discussion will explore a broader defense workforce ecosystem, bringing together the SDF, government, industry, and education to develop practical solutions. Attention will be given to greater industry support, technical training, civilian expertise in gaming, for example, and new approaches to attracting and developing the highly skilled workforce Japan needs for the defense capabilities of the future.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
